Heat wave hits Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – As we continue our Tuesday, expect to have a hot afternoon and a very hot evening.

All thanks to our high pressure system located over Utah and the rest of the Great Basin. Although it remains parked above us, we will have plenty of clear skies allowing plenty of sun to boost our already warm air.

This heat dome also pushes all of our moisture eastward, leaving us in very dry conditions compared to the last few days.

We can see a few small persistent clouds, but rain is not expected at all this evening.

If you expect immediate relief after the sun goes down, I have bad news for you. This evening will be very hot, so dining on the patio might not be the best idea unless you like the excessive heat.

An after-dinner swim in the pool, on the other hand, may be in order.

Temperatures this afternoon will be primarily in the 90s and 100s for many residents of Utah, Nevada, and southeastern Idaho. We stay slightly cooler than in the 80s for southwestern Wyoming. Little or no cloud cover is expected.

Tonight it will be a slow and steady drop in our temperatures even though we have mostly clear skies. The lows will oscillate mainly between the 60s and 70s.

In short, this afternoon and evening will still be hot under the parked thermal dome. Fighting the heat will be the key to avoiding illnesses caused by heat.

As we continue to ride through the next heat wave, be sure to stay informed of Utah’s most accurate forecasts live and online. We are There4You!
