The calm morning gives way to a wet and cool afternoon
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Monday Utah! Starting off our Monday will be calm, but things are starting to turn quickly and our weather system is starting to make its presence felt. Going out to take the kids to school or work, you will notice that we are not as cold as we have been these past few mornings.
Many of us will start our day in the 40s with a strong southerly flow bringing warmer air and cloud cover overhead. These winds will also begin to strengthen as the day progresses, resulting in wind advisories in southern Utah that range from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for some counties. This storm brings wind speeds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with wind gusts reaching 50 in advised areas, but we will all see stronger winds, especially in the afternoon.
Cloud cover will also increase with better chances of showers for us on the Wasatch Front during the afternoon hours. The rain will also be associated with much colder air so not only will we need the umbrella or the raincoat but also a sweater. Colder winds will drop our highs into the 50s for most of northern Utah and into the 60s in southern Utah.
This cooling will continue through the afternoon as the storm system continues to drag through cooler air and humid weather. It is therefore best to prepare for two different days.
In short, a calm morning leads to a wetter and cooler afternoon. Layers will be our friends tomorrow.
