SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Good Friday everyone !! We are closing the work week with slightly below or reaching average temperatures in northern and central Utah.
The heat remains high in southern Utah with another triple-digit day ahead in St. George and near Lake Powell.
The weather headline today will be that thick visible forest fire smoke that has devoured the Utah sky. With a flow further west, we saw the concentration of smoke increase. The thickest smoke is expected along the Wasatch Front and the Western Desert, with air quality issues expected.
Air deemed “unhealthy for sensitive groups” is expected along the Wasatch Front and in Tooele and Box Elder counties. Moderate air is expected in the rest of the state with high ozone levels during the heat of the day and high particulate matter due to smoke from wildfires.
We are drier today overall, but a cold, dry front will cross the state this evening through Saturday, bringing cooler temperatures for the first part of the weekend. The winds could get a little more windy, but the storm potential will be low as we close the work week.
At the end of the line ? Drier Friday with thicker plumes of smoke expected causing a drop in air quality.
