Schneiter and Cravens headline Utah Sports Hall of Fame spring honors | News, Sports, Jobs


Two Northern Utah sports personalities are headlining the spring awards show and the upcoming Utah Sports Hall of Fame Honors Banquet.

The Hall of Fame Foundation will recognize Joe Cravens, former Weber State and St. Joseph Catholic High School basketball coach, as this year’s Coach of Merit.

Golf pro and course designer Ernie Schneiter – he of Schneiter’s Riverside in Riverdale and Schneiter’s Bluff in West Point – will also be honored with a Distinguished Service Award.

Longtime Davis and Syracuse track and field and cross-country coach Roger Buhrley and former Bountiful High head football coach of 20 years Dave Wigham are also among the northern honorees. Utah. They will be named Distinguished Coaches.

Winners will have their names displayed at the Utah Sports Hall of Fame Museum, a free-entry venue located in the northwest corner of the City Creek Mall in Salt Lake City.

The Hall of Fame will officially honor all recipients at a banquet on April 6 at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City. A reception begins at 6:30 p.m. with the banquet at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public at $65 per person.

Others recognized for the Spring 2022 honors are longtime drill team instructor and official Lori Rupp, who will receive a Distinguished Service Award. Football coach Juan Diego John Colisimo, Kearns and Skyline football coach Gil Cordova, longtime high school swim coach Gail Meakins and Snow Canyon volleyball coach Alaina Parker are also honored in as distinguished coaches.

The Utah Sports Hall of Fame Foundation was established in 1967. It states that its mission is to preserve Utah’s sports heritage and history.
